Installation of ncs1.3.5

Post by zeph67 »

I found the old release ncs-1.3.5.tar.gz on code-saturne.org

But this seems to be a kind of pre-compiled version. By default, I executed the lance_install script , but it just told me that the "architecture is not supported by this version of Code_Saturne"

I tried that on several machines (younger and older ones), though on recent versions of Ubuntu.

What must I do ?

Is there another way of installing an 1.3.x (1.3.3 if possible), the same way as for 2.x.x releases ? I mean, by getting ncs, ecs, the installer script...

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hello,

No, this is not a precompiled version, but for Code_Saturne version 1.3, you first need to edit bin/cs_profile and the matching macros_${NOM_ARCH}.mk (with NOM_ARCH determined by cs_profile, and NOM_ARCH=Linux being the default, and others for specific EDF-accessible machines).

You must then source cs_profile in your environment, and then run lance_install from the bin directory.

In any case, there is no up-to-date installer script for version 1.3, and this version will become unmaintained as soon as 3.0 is released (January 2013), so I do not recommend it unless you already have some cases set up with that version for which you want to run additional time steps or test with slightly different data.

As a rule of thumb, when a version becomes unmaintained, we may optionally keep answering very simple questions to which we remember the answer (except for those whoses answers are easy to find in the documentation), but consider we will be too busy with maintained versions and our other work to bother searching through the documentation to help others, and even less testing a user's data on that version to help solve an issue, so we are encouraging users to move to 3.0 beta, and forget 1.3 for all new calculations...

Regards,

Yvan
