Utilization of Syrthes

Post by Renan Neves Nascimento »

Hi. I need to do a project about pipes and fluids. The project consists in to build a pipe and to do analysis of a fluid that pass by this pipe. I just wanna know what programs I need to use. I saw that I need to use SALOME to make the pipe, and I need to use CODE SATURNE to do the analysis. Is that right? If yes, so, why I need SYRTHES? Is that used to substitute SALOME?
Really thanks for the help.

Hello,
Code_Saturne is used to compute the fluid flow (solves the Navier-Stokes equations, with turbulence modeling), but does not include its own meshing tool.
Salome includes a meshing tool, so it may be used to build meshes for Code_Saturne (other meshing tools are available, but among the free tools that I am aware of, those from SALOME are the ones that seem to have made the most progress (Argonne's Meshkit also seems promising, but is probably not quite as mature yet).
SYRTHES is used for conjugate heat transfer, and may be coupled with Code_Saturne, but its use is necessary only if you are also doing thermal analysis.
Best regards,

Hello,
So, to do my project, I need to build meshes with Salome and solve them with Code_Saturne, is that? Where SYRTHES come in at this process?
Thanks by the last post Yvan.

Hi,
Syrthes simulates the thermal and radiative transfer in the solid structure. So if you have thermal interaction between the flow and the surrounding structure, you can (or have to depending the strength of your thermal interaction and the aim of your study) use Syrthes.
