Hello,
I have a simple question about the visualization of intermediate transient results, saved through the "Output control -> Writer -> Frequency..." option.
The output are correctly saved (file "results.density.001" for example), but I cannot open them with Paraview. I get the error “A reader for results.density.001 cannot be found”.
I could find no discussion in the Forum about this aspect, so I guess it is a trivial error of mine...
Anyone can help me?
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Daniele

Re: transient output post treatment Paraview
Hello,
I suppose that you are using ensight file format. In paraview you have to open the result.case file, inside of this file are specified the saved fields and the paths to these fields.
Did you move the saved results?
Regards,
Luciano

Re: transient output post treatment Paraview
Dear Luciano,
Thank you for your help.
Now I see that once I have loaded the result.case file, I can choose the the saved transient output under "Case File Name" in Paraview.
Nevertheless, Paraview gives me an error of "Error Determining Ensight Version" when I try to open one of the saved files.
Yes, I am using Ensight format.
Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
Daniele

Hi!
Try to use other format, for example med.
On writer, chosse format type and double click and select it.

Hello,
To you use the MED format, you need PARAVIS (the SALOME platform's ParaView module), as it is not readable by "standard" ParaView (it is handled as a ParaView plugin in SALOME).
For the EnSight format, are you using binary (default) or text (rarely used/tested) output ? which versions of Code_Saturne and ParaView are you using ?
Best regards,
Yvan

Re: transient output post treatment Paraview
Hello Yvan,
Thanks for your help.
I tried both binary and text, I always get the same error.
Code Saturne v 5.0.1
Paraview v 4.4.0
I find it strange that I can visualize the output saved at the end of the simulation, but not the intermediate ones... Does it make sense from your point of view? Because maybe I am just not using Paraview in the proper way...
Thank you in advance.
Best regards,
Daniele

Re: transient output post treatment Paraview
Hello,
No, it does not make sense. When you have transient data, you should simply be able to select the time step using the "arrows" for time step selection in ParaView. The method for opening the case is always the same (RESULTS.case or similar).
Do you have very small time steps ? We had an issue at some point due to the print format transforming time step info (in the .case file, which is a test file) to 0, but that has normally been solved between 5.0-rc1 and 5.0.0, so should not be the issue here.
Best regards,
Yvan

Re: transient output post treatment Paraview
Dear Yvan,
I did not use the "arrows", but directly tried to select the timestep file in the "Case file name" of the Result.case...
As I supposed, that was a stupid error of mine about using Paraview, everything works fine now...
Sorry for the loss of time for such a post.
And thank you very much for your help.
Best regards,
Daniele
