Import mesh in Code_Saturne v1.3.3

Post by Frédérique Chevalier »

Hi,

I would like to know ALL the kind of meshes you can directly import in Code_Saturne v1.3.3 (without exterior converter).

I know it is possible to import I-DEAS®, GMSH, Gambit®, Simail®, Salomé, Harpoon®, ICEM® meshes, but can I know if there is other kind of meshes? For example, is it possible to import Star CCM+ meshes? etc...

Thank you for your answer.

Best regards,

Hello,

I think that it's not possible to import Star CCM+ meshes with Code_Saturne V1.3.3.

In the version 1.3.3, you can also import MED, CGNS and some others.

You will find more informations and details on the "Code_Saturne pratical user's guide", in section 2.4.1.
(You can find this document on the Graphical User Interface on "Help-->User Manuals --> Code_Saturne")

In the version 2.0 of Code_Saturne you can import Star CCM+ meshes. There is more information on section 2.4 of the pratical user's guide.

Best regards.

Hello Matthieu,

Thank you for you quick answer.
I am sorry, but concerning the version 2.0 of Code_Saturne, I don't find the pratical user's guide of this version.
Is the version 2.0 of Code_Saturne validated and certified stable by EDF R&D (like the version 1.3.3 is)?
Thank you for your answer.

Best regards,

The version 2.0 isn't yet certified by EDF R&D.

The validation is done.

o the certified version will be soon available. Unfortunately I don't know when...
I'll ask and give you the information as soon as possible.

ut if you have to do some calculations without the necessity of the certification the version 2.0 is already available.

I attach the user's guide.

Regards.

A last question : do you know which Code_Saturne version is used in Salome platform?
Thank you so much for your help and the user's guide.

The formats of meshes of SALOME are med and unv, so Code_Saturne versions 1.3 and 2.0 are compatible with SALOME.

For a use of Code_Saturne embedded in SALOME, only 2.0 is plugged. See: http://code-saturne.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1022

You can download 2.0.2 here: http://research.edf.com/research-and-the-scientific-community/softwares/code-saturne/download-code-saturne-80059.html

The pdf User's guide is created during the installation.

Hi everybody,

Now, my question is about Salome version.

Does the 2011.1 Salome version use Code_Saturne 2.0 and is it validated and certified stable by EDF?
http://www.code-aster.org/V2/spip.php?article295
Which Salome version (using Code_Saturne 2.0) is validated and certified stable by EDF? Where can I get it?

Thank you for your answer.

Hello,

SALOME does not include Code_Saturne by default. Existing installs of Code_Saturne and SALOME can work together by adding the CFDSTUDY component to SALOME (and Code_Saturne may also be installed using some of SALOME's libraries as prerequisites, such as MED format support), but they are not currently packaged together (though we hope to improve upon this).

Also, there is no Salome 2011.1 version to my knowledge, but a 2011.1 Salome-Meca version, which is not the basic Salome release (currently at 5.1.5, see http://www.salome-platform.org), but a release packaged for Code_Aster. Meshes produced in either standard Salome or Salome-Meca should work with either version, but I do not know if CFDSTUDY can work with Salome-Meca. In theory, it should, but las time I checked, Salome-Meca overrode a large part of the basic Linux environment with its own libraries, and this could cause issues with Code_Saturne.

For stable "official" versions, I would go with SALOME 5.1.5 ( http://www.salome-platform.org ), Code_Saturne 2.0.1, and CFD_STUDY 2.0, but Alexandre or David might correct me regarding CFD_STUDY.

Hello,

See here: http://code-saturne.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=936

I'll check with Alexandre next week to see if he has any specific installation suggestions (or script), as he is the CFDSTUDY specialist.

Best regards,

  Yvan
