I am looking forward to solve a 3D geometry problem in which a single phase fluid moves through solid channels with heat sources being located in the walls of the solid channels. I need to model the conduction in the solid bodies as well as the energy and Navier stokes equations in the fluid phase. Also, the solid surfaces will exchange radiation, the fluid phase being a gas transparent to radiation.
I wanted to ask, if I should or should not couple SYRTHES with my Code_Saturne installation?.
On a different note, I am aware that CEA has a code TRIOU. What are the major points of differences between TRIOU and Code_Saturne (other than Code_Saturne being free)?

Looking to your case, I think that SYRTHES is totally appropriate and you should couple SYRTHES to Code_Saturne to simulate your case.
 
And about TRIOU, I'm sorry I can't help you, I don't know this code except that it's a polyphasic code.

All the development you should do with Code_Saturne is in fortran whereas Trio_U is in C++.

I think (but not sure) that Syrthes is also in fortran and certainly easier to use with code_saturne.
 
For me, the development in Trio_U is more complex because of the different classes.

Code_Saturne propose a lot of user subroutines that are well define in the user guide.

I don't think that there is a forum to post questions for Trio_U but the development team is very good...

Trio_U permits to use low Mach number equations.

If you have to run LES with thermal subgrid scale model, I don't know what is proposed by Code_Saturne?

Trio_U proposes different modelisation for the subgrid scale diffusivity, turbulent Prandtl number
constant or solved dynamically.

I have no others ideas for the moment.
