Synthetic turbulence for LES initial condition

Hi all,

I am aware that it is possible to include synthetic turbulence at inlets when performing a LES. Is it possible to do the same for the initial condition, i.e. include synthetic turbulence in the initial velocity (and scalar) field?

Regards,
Andrea

Re: Using GGDH with SST turbulence

I guess it's because all these closures (GGDH, AFM, DFM) are suitable for non-isotropic turbulence, that you can only reproduce using a Reynolds Stress Model for the turbulent momentum field. Eddy-viscosity models like k-omega SST cannot reproduce turbulence anisotropy (at least when using a linear ...

Re: Code_Saturne_Automatic scheme and Low_Re_models Convergece

Hi Costas, I guess you are running steady-state simulations. Which algorithm are you using for pressure-velocity coupling? In my experience SIMPLE is quite unstable when using low-Reynolds models, even in basic planar channel flows. Switching to SIMPLEC (with a Courant value around 4.0, or even lowe...

Re: Temperature field with the RSM-EB model

Hi Jean-François, thanks for the reply. Indeed using the GGDH solves the problem. I guess this is because the costant ctheta in the GGDH expression has been calibrated to be used with RSM models. I have also observed it is possible to obtain good results with SGDH by tuning the value of the turbulen...

Hi Yvan,

thanks for the reply. Please let me know when you have any update on this, and also if any other information is needed from my side.

Temperature field with the RSM-EB model

I am running a simple channel flow at Re_t = 395, Pr=0.71 and comparing the results against the DNS database of Kawamura. A constant heat flux is imposed at the bottom and top walls. With the k-omega SST model I got a reasonable prediction of both the flow and the temperature fields. However, with t...
